Self-Support Span Bar Roofing System
A clean-span roofing system designed for Excelite locking panels
Create a streamlined, light-filled roof with the Excelite Self-Support Span Bar Roofing System. The aluminium Span Bars are designed to work with Excelite’s 4mm solid polycarbonate locking panels, with each bar positioned beneath a panel joint.
The integrated support profile can reduce the need for separate secondary rafters along the panel seams. Suitable primary beams, posts, wall connections and fixings are still required, depending on the project design and site conditions.
Choose clear or tinted grey panels, 600mm or 800mm centres, custom bar lengths and a powder-coated finish in your preferred Colorbond® colour.
Key features
-
Integrated support and glazing: Span Bars align beneath the joins between the locking panels.
-
Clean underside appearance: Fewer visible support beams create a neater finish underneath the roof.
-
Custom lengths: Span Bars can be cut to suit your project.
-
Flexible spacing: Choose 600mm or 800mm centres, or combine both spacings in one project. The best layout depends on the project design.
-
Colour options: Powder-coated finish available in a selected Colorbond® colour.
-
Panel options: Compatible with Excelite 4mm solid polycarbonate locking panels in clear or tinted grey.
-
Supply and installation: Melbourne installation is available for suitable projects, with Australia-wide supply and shipping.
How the system works
The aluminium Span Bars provide support beneath the joins between the Excelite locking panels. The panels and matching locking components form the roof covering, while the Span Bars act as integrated supporting rafters.
Depending on the layout, the system may be fixed to suitable timber or steel framing, or connected to a suitable wall using Excelite saddle brackets. The wall material and condition should be checked for each project to confirm the connection is suitable.

Recommended span
As a general guide, we recommend a supported span of up to 4m. A 4.5m bar may be suitable where it includes a 500mm overhang, leaving a supported span of 4m.
The final configuration should be checked against the roof design, site conditions, loads, supports and fixing details. Please contact Excelite for a project review before specifying the system.
Important structural information
“Self-support” describes the integrated Span Bar support system. It does not mean the roof can be installed without a suitable supporting structure. Beams, posts, wall connections, brackets and fixings may still be required.
The suitable span and fixing arrangement depend on the project design and site conditions. Obtain project-specific engineering advice where required for permits or approvals.
Frequently asked questions
Do I still need beams or posts?
The Span Bars provide integrated support along the panel joints, but the roof still needs suitable primary supports, such as beams, posts or a properly designed building connection.
Can I connect the Span Bar to a wall?
Excelite saddle brackets can be used to connect the Span Bar to a wall. The wall’s material and condition should be checked for each project to make sure the connection is suitable.
Can I use 600mm and 800mm centres in the same project?
Yes. Both spacing options are available, and you can combine them. The best layout depends on your project’s design and requirements.
What span do you recommend?
As a general guide, we recommend a supported span of up to 4m. A 4.5m bar may be suitable if it includes a 500mm overhang, leaving a supported span of 4m. The final configuration should be reviewed for your project.
What roof pitch is required?
The stated minimum roof pitch is 5°. Confirm the final roof design and installation details before ordering.
Can I choose the frame colour?
Yes. The aluminium Span Bars can be powder-coated in a selected Colorbond® colour. Please confirm colour availability when requesting a quote.
