Fabrication & Installation Tips
Cutting: Use a fine-tooth saw, circular saw, or laser cutter. Score and snap works for thinner sheets (2mm–3mm).
Drilling: Use standard drill bits at slow speeds. Support the sheet on both sides to prevent cracking.
Bending: Heat with a strip heater or heat gun to form curves and angles. Acrylic becomes pliable at approximately 160°C.
Bonding: Use ACRI-BOND 105 solvent cement for strong, clear joints.
Polishing: Flame-polish edges for a crystal-clear finish, or use buffing compounds for a professional look.
Care & Maintenance
- Clean with warm soapy water and a soft microfibre cloth
- Avoid abrasive cleaners, scouring pads, or paper towels that can scratch
- Dry with a soft cloth to prevent water spots
- Minor scratches can be buffed out with acrylic polish
- Store flat to prevent warping
Acrylic vs Glass vs Polycarbonate
Clear Acrylic Sheet: 30× more impact-resistant than glass • Half the weight • 92% light transmission • More affordable than glass and polycarbonate • Easy to cut, drill, and fabricate • Can scratch (but can be polished)
Glass: Scratch-resistant • Heavy and difficult to handle • Shatters on impact • More expensive • Difficult to fabricate
Polycarbonate Sheet: Even higher impact resistance than acrylic • More expensive • Lower optical clarity • More prone to scratching. For outdoor roofing, pergola, see our full polycarbonate roofing range.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is perspex? Perspex is a brand name for acrylic sheet (PMMA). The terms are used interchangeably.
What’s the difference between acrylic and polycarbonate? Acrylic has superior optical clarity and is more affordable, while polycarbonate has higher impact resistance and is better suited to outdoor roofing applications.
Can I use acrylic sheet outdoors? Yes — our acrylic sheets are UV-resistant and suitable for outdoor signage, glazing, and architectural features. For roofing, we recommend polycarbonate roofing sheets instead.
How do I glue acrylic sheets together? Use ACRI-BOND 105 solvent cement for strong, clear bonds.
What’s the difference between cast and extruded acrylic? Cast acrylic (what we supply) is harder, has better optical clarity, and is superior for machining and laser cutting.
