Frequently Asked Questions:

1. Can I walk on polycarbonate roofing? Polycarbonate sheets are tough and can usually withstand just about any abuse. You can use them on patios, greenhouses, and anywhere you want some natural light – just don’t step on the sheets while you’re installing them. When it comes down to it, polycarbonate is not meant to take on the weight of an adult person. Because the surface is so fragile (despite its toughness), polycarbonate can easily dent and scratch under your weight if you try and walk on it. Further, the surface of a polycarbonate sheet is extremely slippery. This is due, in part, to the UV-resistant film that covers the sheets. If you try and walk on polycarbonate roofing sheets, you will likely fall and injure yourself. Don’t take the risk and end up falling off from a roof. 2. Which type of polycarbonate sheeting is the cheapest option? Corrugated polycarbonate sheeting and twin wall polycarbonate will be the least expensive variety. The thickness of a polycarbonate corrugated sheet is 0.8 mm, not only because of the material itself, but also because of the joint way. You don’t need joiners for corrugated roofing sheet. The interior of a twin wall sheet is hollow, which results in a rigid structure while significantly reduced weight. Both are more affordable. But don’t forget Australia’s harsh weather and strong UV ,also frequently hails. While you may save from the material itself, the damage caused by installing the wrong polycarbonate sheet may lead to more expenses in the long run. 3. What type of polycarbonate can be used for pergola enclosure? The best material to use for an enclosure that looks like glass is a polycarbonate solid sheet that is 4-6mm thick. This ensures that the greenhouse's interior remains at a comfortable temperature. The fact that the twin wall sheet is highly robust means that it requires very little in the way of a frame. If, on the other hand, you want your greenhouse to function more like a sunroom, you can go inside and sit there to take advantage of the warm weather. There are many types of polycarbonate sheets suitable for roof, including multi-wall, solid, and corrugated sheets. These are each manufactured with different uses in mind and offer their own unique benefits. When used appropriately and fitted as per the manufacturer’s guidelines, they will offer fantastic strength and reliability. Multi-wall Polycarbonate sheet: One of the most popular varieties, multi-wall polycarbonate is ideal for conservatories and lean-tos. As its name suggests, multi-wall is made up of numerous layers, which when combined offer excellent thermal and acoustic insulation. Perfect for creating a comfortable, peaceful living space. Solid Polycarbonate sheet: Made up of a single layer, solid polycarbonate sheets are super strong, and can nearly match the light transmission of glass – allowing up to 90% of sunlight to pass through, much light weight compare to glass. This makes solid polycarbonate a fantastic choice for projects where light is paramount. Corrugated Polycarbonate roofing sheet: Ideal for projects with a tight budget, corrugated sheets offer many of the benefits of solid polycarbonate at a lower cost. Thanks to their corrugated form factor, these sheets requires less frame, and no need joiners. 9. Can you cut polycarbonate sheet? What tool do you cut with? Polycarbonate sheets can be cut with either a circular saw or a jigsaw. A circular saw is the best tool for cutting larger polycarbonate lengths, in Excelite Plastic, we use Festool track saw to cut our polycarbonate sheet. Thanks to the properties of this material, polycarbonate won’t crack or splinter around the cut. Polycarbonate is also relatively insensitive to heat developed during the cutting process, whatever the cutting speed or the speed the saw is set at. But to get the best cut, it’s important to select the right circular saw and blade and to pay close attention to the throughput and speed. Tips: If using a jigsaw to cut polycarbonate sheets, it’s crucial to hold the sheets firmly in position while sawing to achieve a good cut. The sheet must not move up and down as you saw so place glue clamps along the cutting line. 10. Is polycarbonate unbreakable? Polycarbonate can withstand extreme amounts of force and are nearly unbreakable. There are even bullet resistant varieties of polycarbonate which are used in things such as police shields. These sheets are also very lightweight, making it easy to transport and install them anywhere. With the UV blocking capabilities of polycarbonate, it is a perfect material for constructing awnings or sunroom roofing. These properties of polycarbonate also make it the ideal material for the construction of greenhouses. Polycarbonate panels are resistant to extreme temperature either hot or cold, sunlight, snow, rain, and impact. This enables the panels to last for many years without fading or discoloring while also remaining damage free from any various impacts over the years.
